Itinerary
Transportation: Airport Transfer
Upon your arrival at the Cusco airport, our local representative will extend a warm welcome, ensuring a seamless transition to your hotel, where an enchanting evening awaits you.
Exploring Cusco: Where History Breathes
Cusco, a city adorned with colonial architecture, is a living testament to a complex history. Indigenous Quechua culture permeates the streets, where ancient Incan walls now support Spanish colonial buildings. A stroll through this city is a journey through time. Indulge in the sights, the sounds, and the flavors of Cusco. Don’t miss the impressive Sacsayhuaman, the battlefield of a historic 1536 clash.
Accommodation: El Mercado
Located in the heart of Cusco, El Mercado offers more than lodging. It’s an immersion into the culture and traditions of this vibrant city. With origins as a bustling market, the spirit of the Apus, or mountain spirits, infuses the atmosphere. Expect nothing short of exceptional service and warm Peruvian hospitality.
On the Way to Soraypampa
As the sun rises, our trekking guide and driver will escort you from your Cusco abode. The journey will unveil the Quillarumiyoc archaeological site, followed by a visit to the picturesque mountain village of Mollepata. At El Pedregal, a charming farmhouse, you’ll delve into local agriculture and livestock.
En Route to Salkantay Lodge
The winding path of the “Camino Real” guides you from Challacancha to Soraypampa, allowing you to gradually acclimate to higher altitudes. The majestic Salkantay Lodge, named after the sacred Mt. Salkantay, stands as a beacon of your journey’s magnitude. Upon arrival, a warm reception awaits, followed by tea, cookies, a briefing by the fireplace, and a sumptuous dinner.

Optional: Guests not trekking may opt for a vehicle transfer to the lodge.
A morning ascent leads you to the breathtaking turquoise waters of Lake Humantay. Here, nature’s serenity invites you to relax, meditate, and partake in a traditional offering to “Pachamama,” Mother Earth. After your descent, a tantalizing lunch awaits, marking the beginning of a leisurely afternoon. An outdoor jacuzzi, a massage, or a peaceful nap — the choice is yours.
The day dawns with an ascent up the Rio Blanco valley, circling Humantay Peak. Your journey unveils expansive plateaus and vestiges of a once-rushing river. The ultimate challenge lies in conquering the mountain switchbacks leading to the Salkantay Pass, the trek’s zenith at 4,636 meters (15,213 feet). Descending through fog-enveloped boulders, a hearty picnic lunch awaits. The day culminates at Wayra Lodge in Wayraccmachay.
Leaving Wayra Lodge behind, you descend along the Salkantay River’s lush banks. The trail winds past the humble abodes of locals, offering a glimpse into their daily lives. Colpa Lodge, perched on a promontory where three rivers converge, welcomes you with a Pachamanca lunch, a traditional Peruvian delight. The afternoon unfolds amidst breathtaking mountain vistas.
Today’s odyssey leads you through the Santa Teresa River valley, where streams fed by cascading waterfalls crisscross your path. A hot picnic lunch by the river fuels your onward journey. Afterward, a brief vehicle transfer sets the stage for the “Llactapata Inca Trail,” culminating at Lucma Lodge, where the embrace of the Amazon Jungle draws near.
A 2-3 hour climb reveals the essence of rainforest trekking. The Llactapata Pass unveils the “back” of Machu Picchu, an awe-inspiring sight. Lunch in a meadow with panoramic views precedes a descent through bamboo forests. The day concludes at Hidroelectrica train station, where a scenic train ride delivers you to Aguas Calientes.
Visit Machu Picchu Sanctuary
A spirited uphill bus ride leads to the awe-inspiring Machu Picchu. Guided exploration unveils the Watchtower, the Temple of the Sun, and the royal residences. Immerse yourself in the history and mystique of this ancient citadel. For those seeking an extra thrill, a hike to Huayna Picchu awaits.
Homeward Bound
After a late lunch, embark on a train journey to Ollantaytambo, followed by a scenic ride to Cusco. Your time in Peru concludes with a smooth airport transfer, bidding farewell to this extraordinary adventure.
